A Drumheller wildlife filmmaker has landed some big name support for a documentary he is producing on wolves.

Matthew Todd Paproski of Starland Studios has received the endorsement of the East Los Angeles rock band Los Lobos.

"Los Lobos means the wolves," explained Paproski. "I'd always wanted to meet and talk to them, so I found out they were coming to Calgary this (past) weekend and happened to have some friends that could get me in, and another friend that got me backstage and one thing led to another. They loved it, they loved what we're doing with the wolves and gave us their support."

"We started with a song called Will the Wolf Survive?," Paproski elaborated. "They wrote that in 1980: it parallels a Mexican man who's trying to make a living and all the trials and tribulations reminded the writer, David Hidalgo, of a wolf trying to survive."

Paproski now plans to use the song as the basis for a soundtrack for his documentary, tentatively titled How Will Wolves Survive?

"We're going to be filming in September," he outlined. "We're going to start in Drumheller, a little bit of work with some wolves here, and an introduction to a journey we're going on with the wolves to Thompson, Manitoba, the wolf capital of the world. Hopefully, we're going for the Guinness world record for the most people howling together."
